Awards & Qualifications For Teachers & Trainers


These QCF, RQF & NVQ training courses and qualifications are for those who work, or want to work as teachers or trainers in the further education and skills sector. These courses are for those who are not in a teaching role, or who have just started a teaching role, and include Award-size qualifications for those who want a short qualification to enable them to make career choices.

Candidates who have already achieved some Learning and Development units can carry these forward into this qualification. The Education and Training Foundation (ETF) has produced revised guidance for the qualifications in Education and Training available across all Awarding Organisations.

Level 3 Education & Training Courses


A level 3 training course and qualification is equivalent to an advanced technical certificate or diploma, or 2 A levels.

Level 3 Award in Education and Training (RQF)

The Level 3 Award in Education and Training (RQF) is an introductory, knowledge based teaching qualification which can be undertaken by individuals who are not yet in a teaching role (pre-service), or are currently teaching (in-service). However, there is a minimum requirement to take part in microteaching. Microteaching is an activity where trainee teachers prepare and deliver a short teaching and learning session to their peers and then evaluate their practice.

This training course provides an introduction to education and training for individuals who currently work or would like to work in Colleges, training providers and for those required to train others within their workplace.

Level 3 Award in Assessing Vocationally Related Achievement (RQF)

The Level 3 Award in Assessing Vocationally Related Achievement (RQF) is for practitioners who assess knowledge and/or skills in vocationally-related subject areas who use the following assessment methods: assessments in simulated environments, skills tests, oral and written questions, assignments, projects, case studies and RPL. This may take place in training workshops, classrooms or other learning environments.

This training course is designed for individuals that are currently in an assessor role or wanting to move into this role. It covers the vocational requirements of assessment. You will learn about all stages of the assessment cycle.

Level 3 Award in Undertaking End-Point Assessment (RQF)

The Level 3 Award in Undertaking End Point Assessment (RQF) is a qualification is for practitioners working in or looking to work in end point assessment (EPA) within the Apprenticeship sector.
It is ideal for occupationally competent people, from any sector or industry, who would like to assess for an end-point assessment organisation. This qualification is also ideal for already qualified assessors who need to up-skill themselves and have a better understanding of end-point assessment practices.

This training course is delivered via blended learning. With learning resources available to support you through the knowledge elements of the course.

Level 4 Education & Training Courses


A level 4 training course and qualification is equivalent to the first year of a university degree, meaning that you can gain a higher education qualification without committing to a full 3-year course.

The Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training

The Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training is a first stage teaching qualification that will give candidates a fundamental understanding of the roles and responsibilities of a teacher/trainer in relation to legislation, equality, diversity, inclusivity and meeting the needs of learners. It includes the use of initial and diagnostic assessments and requires candidates to plan and deliver inclusive teaching and learning, carry out assessments of and for learning and use resources effectively.

This training qualification is also suitable for those delivering education and training in any learning environment.

Level 4 Award In The Internal Quality Assurance Of Assessment Processes And Practice (RQF)

The Level 4 Award in the Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practice (RQF) is intended for those who wish to work in quality assurance in a wide range of environments such as Further Education (FE) Colleges, Independent Training organisations or Local Authorities. This qualification is also suitable for those who currently work in a teaching/assessing role and wish to develop their knowledge and skills in internal quality assurance.

This training course has two units. One is knowledge based and is completed via knowledge workbook. This is then followed by a practical element where you will demonstrate your IQA skills via monitoring the activities of two assessors.

Level 4 Award In Understanding The Internal Quality Assurance Of Assessment Processes And Practice (RQF)

Level 4 Award In Understanding The Internal Quality Assurance Of Assessment Processes And Practice (RQF) is intended for those who wish to gain an understanding of the principles and practices of internal quality assurance without any requirement to practice.  During this training course, learners will build an understanding of the principles and practices of internal quality assurance within a vocational education setting.

Topics include: context and principles of internal quality assurance, techniques and criteria for monitoring the quality of assessment, legal and good practice requirements for internal quality assurance of assessment and more.

Level 5 Education & Training Courses


A level 5 training course and qualification is equivalent to a diploma of higher education (DipHE), a foundation degree or a higher national diploma (HND)

Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training (RQF)

The Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training is a teaching qualification which has a teaching/training practice requirement. It is an ‘in service’ qualification designed for those working or wishing to work as teachers/trainers in England. It may be possible for pre-service teachers/trainers (defined as those who are not formally contracted as teachers/trainers) to also complete this qualification.

This training course is is made up of written and practical assessments and is evidenced by a completed portfolio. All candidates, whether pre-service or in-service must have access to 100 hours of teaching.
