Level 3 NVQ Awareness Of Dementia Training Courses
The Level 3 QCF Award in Awareness of Dementia replaces the Level 3 NVQ in Awareness of Dementia. This qualification is for individuals aspiring towards or already working in the capacity of caring for patients with dementia. This course introduces dementia, and makes learners aware of causes and symptoms of the different types. It will then move on to the principles of care in relation to clients suffering from this illness.
This course is suitable for support staff working in the health and social care sector. It has a particular relevance for those working with older service users, including those working with stages of pre-senile dementia.
Students will learn a broad knowledge of the subject, together with practical skills that will enable them to support people experiencing dementia.
Level 3 NVQ / QCF Award Awareness of Dementia
Dementia is a group of symptoms that contribute to the decline in one’s memory and thinking skills.
These symptoms, when severe, can hinder the day-to-day activities of a person. Alzheimer’s disease is a type of dementia that is known to affect millions of people around the world. Vascular dementia is another form of dementia that occurs in patients who have experienced a stroke. Dementia can also result from vitamin deficiencies and thyroid problems. The early diagnosis of dementia will help a patient benefit from treatment, as the disease tends to progress quickly if untreated.

Duration of Course
This course requires 86 Guided Learning Hours, which will be completed with an industry-expert tutor.
Progression Options
This accredited qualification will expand your knowledge and allow you to understand the impact and treatment of dementia. This could allow you to specialise in the care of clients with dementia. Upon completion of this course, you could start a higher level qualification, or expand your learning in other areas such as our diabetes care and management course.
