Moving, Handling & Positioning For Care Home Staff

This training course is designed for those working in the Health and Social Care sector that are moving, handling and positioning objects, equipment or people. This course will support staff to understand the need to care for themselves and others when moving and positioning, and to understand the legal framework underpinning these procedures. This course is for 8 – 12 people.

Key Benefits

Moving and Positioning Induction can be cross-mapped over to the Care Certificate – Standard 13. This can also be used as supportive evidence to map across to joint Skills for Care and Skills for Health Assessment Principles for the Level 2 Diploma in Care (RQF) in England.

Aim

To provide theoretical and practical knowledge of correct moving and positioning procedures, so that staff can prevent injury to themselves and the individual being moved.

Course Content

By the end of the course participants will know and understand

  • Relevant legislation
  • Moving and positioning injuries and statistics
  • The anatomy and function of the spine
  • How to avoid back injuries
  • Correct moving and positioning techniques
  • How to move inanimate objects
  • The criteria by which appropriate handling techniques and equipment are selected and reviewed
  • Their ability to move and handle people and loads in a safe and correct manner appropriate to their environment

Entry Requirements

This course is suitable for those working in Health and Social Care settings. If learners have any health complications that could affect their participation, it is important to let A1 Social Care Training know so that adaptions can be made if possible.
